Mt. Orab Resident Wins $5,000 Scholarship in Ohio’s CollegeAdvantage 529 Plan
Shane Bishop of Mt. Orab was selected as the  winner of the May 2009 CollegeAdvantage 529 Scholarship offered through the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority. Mr. Bishop was awarded a $5,000 scholarship for his family in May 2009 as part of the Tuition Trust’s annual Family Advantage early education campaign conducted through Ohio elementary schools. The campaign is designed to increase awareness about the need to plan and save for higher education. The campaign provides teachers and parents with helpful information about saving for college, along with fun interactive classroom activities for the students.

“Unexpected blessings like this are certainly not something that you plan for, but it is something we’re excited about.  Having  three children and looking at the future cost of education, this will certainly help us as we plan for college,” said Vanessa Bishop.

CollegeAdvantage supports the Cleveland Cavaliers READ TO ACHIEVE program
The Cleveland Cavaliers and CollegeAdvantage partnered to provide the Read To Achieve Challenge for the 2008-09 school year. The program was open to all elementary school students, grades K-8, in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, Median, Portage, Geauga and Lake counties. Participating classrooms received progress cards for each student in the class. Students were required to read outside of the classroom daily and track the number of minutes they read each day for one month.

Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. The program reaches thousands of elementary, middle and high school students in Northeast Ohio through reading time-outs, book drives and donations and the construction of Reading & Learning Centers.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Mo Williams of the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted a BIG afternoon for 22 pint-size third graders from Eastview Elementary School on Monday, February 2, 2009 for a Read to Achieve event. CollegeAdvantage is a co-sponsor of Read to Achieve.
