Ohio 529 Joins CML For Summer Reading Challenge
“Everything you need for better future and success has already been written.
And guess what? All you have to do is go to the library.”
Henri Frederic Amiel (1821-1881. Swiss moral philosopher, poet, and critic)
Ohio’s 529 Plan, CollegeAdvantage, proudly supports many statewide outreach programs to encourage young, bright minds to see all of life’s educational possibilities.
This summer, we have partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) to support their Summer Reading Challenge and support children as they develop, sustain and improve their reading skills over the 2021 summer break.
Summer Reading Challenge
Central to this outreach is CML’s Summer Reading Challenge, which will run through Saturday, July 31. You will need to have a CML library card to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge. If you don’t have one, you can apply online here.
Participants will complete reading goals and be entered into raffle drawings for gift cards and other prizes along the way, including College Savings Awards from Ohio’s 529 Plan. The library system is also scheduling some fun events around this reading contest.
Ohio 529 is the Challenge Sponsor for Summer Reading Challenge
In order to reach as many central Ohio children as possible during the Summer Reading Challenge and keep their reading skills sharp, Ohio’s 529 Plan, CollegeAdvantage, contributed $20,000 to CML for this outreach.
Ohio’s 529 Plan is now challenging other central Ohio residents to invest in CML. With a one-time $45 donation, you will provide one local child with a summer filled with full access to books, teaching staff and learning opportunities to improve their reading skills as well as fun, virtual programs that will entertain and encourage the young minds to keep learning. It’s crucial to keep the potential summer slide from affecting a child’s ability to learn in the new school year. Studies show that children who read during the summer maintain literacy skills that are critical to future academic success.
As of the morning of June 11, over $15,000 has been raised for this local outreach program. If you are interested in supporting CML’s Summer Reading Challenge, the deadline for donations is June 17. Please help push CML over their $20,000 goal for this reading challenge.
By investing in your local library, you’re investing in a local child’s education and building up the central Ohio community. Visit here to learn how to make a donation to CML’s Summer Reading Challenge and support local children.
