Ohio 529 Joins Dayton Metro Library To Support Summer Challenge
Ohio’s 529 Plan, CollegeAdvantage, proudly supports many statewide outreach programs to encourage young, bright minds to see all of life’s educational possibilities.
Running from June 1 – July 31, summer reading program participants can earn points not only for their time reading the books — which also includes e-books, audiobooks, magazines, comics and manga — but also for their participation in library activities, camp experiences, church programs, online learning, educational TV and school programs. Also, participants can also earn points for helping out in their community through volunteer work, helping their family, picking up trash, helping a neighbor, or youth group activities. There are additional early learning activities that kindergartners and younger kids can do to earn points.
To celebrate the summer reading program theme, Dayton Metro Library is welcoming Newport Aquarium’s WAVE on Wheels to offer exciting programs at multiple library branches in June. Children will get a chance to see penguins, sharks, stingrays, and other ocean creatures. Registration is required to attend Waves on Wheels. Check http://www.daytonmetrolibrary.org/ to sign up. And these fun events do count toward your points.
Prizes are given to three age groups: Birth-Kindergarten, Grades 1-6, and Grades 7-12. And the prizes will be specific for each age group once they attain these goals: 10, 20, 30, or 40 hours. Parents and caregivers can keep track of the minutes on online account for their child.
