Dinosaurs reading a book with the text "Unearth a Story"

Ohio 529 CollegeAdvantage supports many statewide outreach programs to encourage young, bright minds to see all of life’s educational possibilities.

This summer, we are proud to partner again with the Dayton Metro Library to support their Summer Reading Challenge — “Unearth A Story.” Summer reading can help students, their families, and their teachers fend off “summer slide” and keep reading skills strong over the break.

Running through July 31, Summer Reading Challenge encourages families as they help children develop and grow a love for reading. You will need to have a library card to participate. If you don’t have one, you can apply online or at any library branch.

You can earn a free book of your choice after 15 days of reading and again after 30 days of reading! All prizes will be available at Dayton Metro Library branches prior to Aug. 8. The prizes will be available while supplies last.

The grand prize for readers aged birth – 18 is a $2,529 college savings award from Ohio 529 to add to or start an Ohio Direct 529 account,. After registering for the Summer Reading Challenge 2026, parents or caregivers can enter the sweepstakes any time before 11:59 p.m. EST Aug. 10.

Adults are also welcome to participate in the challenge. Adults will receive a small prize after tracking their first day of reading, and after 5=15 days of tracked reading, adults will receive a coupon for a free item at a Friends of the Library book sale. After completing 30 days of reading, adults can enter a drawing for a raffle basket at each branch.

You can register for “Unearth A Story” Summer Reading Challenge online or by calling (937) 463-2665.
