Ohio’s 529 Plan, CollegeAdvantage, is proud to partner with the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation to present the Book Jackets program, designed to encourage central Ohio kindergarten to 8th grade students to increase their reading time and sharpen their learning skills.
For all central Ohio teachers interested in participating in this Book Jackets program, Monday, April 3, is the last day to register your classroom to participate in the program. Once signed up, you will receive a packet with everything to inspire your students to read: an instruction manual for you, letters to share with the parents, a classroom poster and puck nametags, and student scorecards. The Columbus Metropolitan Library has created a list of hockey-related books to read at every grade level.
May 5 is the last day for teachers to submit their students’ reading minutes.
Families of participating students can enter to win a $529 college savings award from Ohio’s 529 Plan to add to or start a CollegeAdvantage Direct 529 Plan.
Here’s a video of former Blue Jackets defenseman Scott Harrington’s Book Jackets visit to a classroom at Winterset Elementary School. Harrington stopped by this Columbus City School to spend time reading with students.
